When Shellye Fox was traveling through rural southwest Ontario, where tobacco fields used to fill the landscape, she saw barns in the countryside that seemed to be overflowing with beautiful weathered wood. She approached the farmers and eventually started to reclaim the wood slats, previously used to dry tobacco leaves, into beautiful artwork with simple, and often witty, sayings about life.
Inspired by the hard work of farmers, she turns the aged wood into home-wares and one-of-a-kind signs. Newer projects see her using other reclaimed products such as leather and metal. Shellye is now working towards building more furniture and wall decor, with every piece focused on bringing history back to life. She works out of her warehouse studio in Toronto.
