Mother's Day Gifting 101

April 30, 2017

We don't want to freak you out, but Mother's Day is soon - like 'right around the corner' soon - so if you haven't thought about how to give that special lady in your life an appropriately special gift, now is a great time to start.

While your mother will love any gift you give her, why not make this year special? Skip the classic last minute dash to the florist and curate her a present from the heart. Here at Maker House Co., we have plenty of amazing local, handmade products that will make your mother smile, cry, laugh, or maybe all three at once.

For those moms that enjoy the occasional glass of wine, our stylish Leather Strap Wine Racks from Grains of Truth (Toronto) are the ultimate gift. Made out of reclaimed wood from the tobacco kilns of Southwestern Ontario, these racks are a piece of Ontario agricultural history and fit perfectly in any dining room or kitchen.

For a smaller gift, our locally sourced walnut Wine Bottle Butlers from Realwood (Ottawa) are the a great accent to any home, while our Chalkboard Wine Decanters from Chalkboard Chique (Ottawa) are an adorable way to show your love. The decanters have a chalkboard bottom to help your mom to distinguish between her different types of wine, sangria, or even breakfast drinks like orange juice and milk!

If your mom loves to get creative in the kitchen, we have an awesome list of kitchenware and homewares that will be sure to make her smile.

Our Wood Salad Servers from Craft Collective (Wakefield) are a trendy way to lighten up any kitchen, with each set being hand dipped in either white (for the birch or walnut) or turquoise (for the walnut) to give them a fun splash of colour. The Cutting Boards and Serving Platters from Craft Collective are two more highly durable gifts that will serve your mother for many years to come.

Our White Branches Ceramic Tea Mugs and Tea Pots from Grow Studios (Ottawa) are the ideal pairing of rustic looks and handmade durability, and are designed for any tea lover.

If your mom already has a tea set, pick her up some tea towels! Our "Limoncello" Tea Towels by Claire Manning (Toronto) are one of the cutest ways to show your love. Useful and durable, all of Claire's towels are super absorbent, fast drying, and get softer each time they are washed. Some other tea towel makers to check out right now online are pi'lo (Toronto),  Lu Prints (Pemberton), and Hatchet Made (Toronto).

Finally, no great gift can be complete without a card! This month we have tons of amazing cards from Kid Icarus (Toronto), Rhubarb Paper Co. (Kentville), and Made in Brockton Village (Toronto).

But if you want to be the ultimate offspring, pick up the #1 Mom Button Card from The Regional Assembly of Text (Vancouver). Each card actually includes a "# 1 Mom" button that your lovely mother can wear when she brags to all of her friends (and your siblings) about how awesome your gifts were.

Happy gifting!
