Brigitte was introduced to cyanotypes by her West Coast daughters and was smitten by the process: part nature, art, science, and history. She has been experimenting with, and printing vibrant cyan-blue images, using plants collected in her Hintonburg garden, roadsides, the forest, fields and the ocean.
She recently canoed the Yukon River, carrying pre-prepared, light sensitive postcards, creating impressions of fireweed, a native of the boreal forest, now regenerating riverside burn sites.
Cyanotypes have a mind of their own and attachment to an expected outcome is futile, and so, no two prints are ever the same.
