Do you sell gift cards?
Yes, we do! You can purchase Maker House Co. gift cards anytime, either in-store or online. Our gift cards start at $10.
How can I shop with you?
You have a few easy ways to shop:
- Online: Order conveniently through our website with the option to ship to your home or select free in-store pickup.
- In-Store: Visit our store location in Ottawa at 987 Wellington Street West, located right on the main street in the Hintonburg neighbourhood. You can find our current store hours here.
Do you deliver furniture?
We do, however only in Ottawa-Gatineau. Our rates start as low as $25 and up to $90 depending on the size of the piece. We'll reach out to you to confirm delivery date and details. If you have questions feel free to reach out to hello@makerhouse.com!
Why are some items out of stock?
Because most of the unique items we carry are handmade and take time to produce properly, we buy a limited run from our makers. This means we occasionally run out of stock. If an item you love is currently unavailable, you can sign up for notifications on the product page when it's back!
What is your return policy?

How should I care for wooden homewares?
Proper care will keep your wooden items looking great for years!
- Washing: Wash in warm, soapy water (not hot) using a mild dish detergent. Towel dry immediately. Do not soak the wood and never put it in the dishwasher.
- Conditioning: Apply a light coating of a beeswax and mineral oil paste (we sell a great one from a local woodworker/beekeeper). Let it absorb for 5-20 minutes, then gently rub off any excess with a lint-free or microfiber cloth. This adds protection and a nice sheen. A brand-new item may need this treatment every week for about a month, and then about once a month thereafter, depending on how often you use it.
- Avoid: Do NOT use olive oil or other fine cooking oils. They can go rancid. Keep the wood away from standing water and bright sunlight.
- Stain Removal: To remove stains, sprinkle salt on the area and gently rub with a cut lemon or lime half. Citrus is a great natural disinfectant!
Are all products at Maker House Co. made in Canada?
We work exclusively with Canadian makers and companies and strive to prioritize Canadian manufacturing:
- The VAST majority of our items are designed in Canada and fully manufactured here using raw materials sourced in Canada.
- Some items may be manufactured in Canada but use select components or materials sourced from the USA or overseas (for example, a soy-wax candle poured into glass from the USA).
- A very small number of items (less than 5%) are manufactured outside of Canada, but we carry them for specific reasons. These might be hard-to-find items (like pencils or certain books) or DIY components.
- Crucially, all items are Canadian-designed and sold by Canadian Makers. We make sure to verify that all manufacturing is done under fair-wage working conditions. We welcome any questions or feedback regarding this policy!

Shopping Online
I'm having a technical problem with my online order. What should I do?
Please email us at hello@makerhouse.com with the Subject Line: "Technical Issues." We'll get in touch with you right away to help you sort it out.
What forms of payment do you accept online?
We accept all major credit cards and Maker House Co. gift cards on our website. We also accept Google Pay, Apple Pay, Shop Pay and PayPal.

How does shipping work (rates, delivery time, etc.)?
We work as quickly as we can to get your order shipped out to you, often shipping within one business day!

Can I buy online and pick up my order in the store?
Yes! When you check out, simply select the Pick up option. You'll recieve a notification once your order is ready for you to collect during our regular business hours.
Orders will be held for three weeks from the order date. If you fail to pick up your order within this time frame, it will be cancelled with a 25% restocking fee, and the remaining 75% will be refunded to your original payment method. Learn more.
