April: Swag it up!

April 02, 2016
04/02/2016

Happy April, 613! This month we’re pumped to announce that we’ll be welcoming new workshops, hosting a huge party, and we will be working with a new #CraftChange partner.

However, first things first, we are hiring!

Our small business is growing and we’re looking for motivated part-time staff. If you want to be part of the maker movement, let us know!

Candidates should have some retail experience, excellent communication skills, strong work ethic, and some knowledge or passion for handmade products. If this seems like you, give us a shout at hello@makerhouse.co (Subject Line: Employment Opportunity) and attach your resume, along with any relevant experience and a note about your passion for what we do.

Now back to business. Here’s what you need to know for this month at Maker House:

On Sunday, April 10th, we are welcoming the Ottawa City Woodshop to our store for a special workshop. Hosted by Declan Thomas, this 3-hour class will teach six lucky people the basics of working with hand planes in order to finish pre-assembled cutting boards. Participants will get experience sanding and oiling their cutting boards before they get to bring them home. Sign up via this linkto get in. Cost is $80 with all supplies provided.

On Thursday, April 14th, talented artist Crystal Beshara comes to Maker House to teach us a thing or two about still-life drawing. In this 2-hour lesson, you will be able to decompress from your workday, hone your observational skills, and learn the basic perspective techniques that pertain to drawing 3D objects. Sign up via this link. Cost is $30 with all supplies provided.

For the art lovers out there, pop by our store until April 17th to check out our first formal art show titled “Overlayed: A Hacked Art Show.” Featuring some big local names, such as Marc Adornato, Dan Martelock, Stirling Prentice, Angela McGowan, Stephanie Halin, and ARPi, the show features vintage objects turned into funky post-industrial art objects or protest pieces.

On Friday, April 22nd, we invite you to join us and our store mates Brew Donkey as we officially launch the fully stocked Ottawa Craft Beer Swag Shop at Maker House Co. Find glassware, hats, shirts and more from favourites including Dominion City, Bicycle, Ashton, Nita, Kichesippi, Broken Stick, and more.
