"Word on the street, is that urban planning is cool!"

An engineer by day, maker Alexandre Laquerre has a keen interest in design, photography, and urban planning. Alex has made a home for himself in Ottawa's Golden Triangle neighbourhood where he designs beautiful typographic word map posters of his own city as well as other Canadian cities. Doing his silkscreening at home where he lives with his wife and young daughter, Alex looks to bring Ottawa's drastically different history to light and preserve a time when the city was run by pedestrians, not cars.

As he notes on his website for Ottawa Past & Present, "Sparks Street [used to be] thriving, people were actually living downtown and at LeBreton Flats and a train could bring you to the heart of the city. The narrow and institutionalized vision of bureaucrats, the rapid expansion of car use, and a generalized neglect of architectural heritage changed the urban fabric of the capital."
