Kwey Kakina (hello everyone)! Meet Mya ... the creator behind Kokom Scrunchies!
Mya Beaudry is a talented young Algonquin from Kitigan Zibi Anishinabeg First Nation. Since starting Kokom Scrunchies in the fall of 2019, Mya has always ensured that all Kokom Scrunchies are handmade with love in Canada.
Mya named each of the original Kokom Scrunchies after Indigenous role models in her life - the word Kokom means Grandmother. She hopes to also inspire others in her journey. What started off as an idea, has taken Mya on path of bringing Kokom Scrunchies to everyone, young and old.
Main colour for this scrunchie is Orange.
Each scrunchie is handmade so there may be some variation, however, it will be close to the image provided.

Wear a piece of Canadian (and Ottawa) history!
The copper used for the maple leaf is the original copper which covered the roofs of Canada's Parliament Buildings from 1918 to 1996. Wear this copper pin proudly! Measures approx. 2 cm round.
This copper pin is available on gold-plated or pewter backing.
As these are handmade and made from recycled roofing, unique marks including scratches and dents will appear on the copper of each pin.
Why don’t they come in red?
We get this question all the time! The rich patina on these pieces comes from decades of natural oxidation while the copper roof covered Canada’s Parliament Buildings for 78 years. Rather than altering this historic material, Under One Roof preserves its authentic character—keeping the same aged copper that has witnessed some of Canada’s most important moments. That means no artificial colouring, just genuine history in every piece. Enjoy this one-of-a-kind connection to Canada’s past!
Because this item is handcrafted, slight variations are to be expected and admired.
Sold individually.
Made by Under One Roof - a social enterprise in Ottawa, Ontario. Every item was crafted with the participation of persons with developmental disabilities.
