August: Come Chill With Us

August 02, 2016
08/02/2016

It’s been a blistering summer and August does not appear to be letting down, so we invite everyone to come chill out with us this month at our cool, air-conditioned shop in Hintonburg.

We’re filled with locally crafted goodies from more than 100 makers and always love to chat about the stories behind each of our products, so feel free to pop by whenever and cool down.

We’re also hosting some awesome events this month, so here some things you should know:

Dominion City Brewing Co. and our business buddies  Brew Donkey will be hosting their second drop-in craft beer education event in the shop on August 12th from 6 to 9pm for those who enjoy beer and charity. This event is free to attend, with each beer going for $5 and all proceeds being kindly donated by Dominion City to Ecology Ottawa, an important eco non-profit. You can RSVP on the event page.

Ecology Ottawa is also the #CraftChange partner at Maker House right now, with 2 per cent of all sales from July-September supporting their projects like Tree Ottawa, so please check them out to learn more!

If you’ve ever been curious about woodworking is done, then you should pop by the shop August 13th as we are welcoming a great maker, Bram D'Hoest, who will showcase in person how he painstakingly produces his beautifully handmade wooden spoons that we carry at the shop. Simply drop in between 2 and 4pm and meet this super friendly, one-of-a-kind, creative member of our community, and watch him as he does his thing! While you’re here, why not pick up one of his amazing pieces, which also include hand turns bowls, baby rattles, and wooden honey dippers.

It’s time you pampered yourself and our DIY bath bombs workshop on Sunday August 28th is the perfect way to do so. Learn from one of Ottawa's best apothecary companies, Zoe's Corner, as they host one of our most relaxing workshops to date! All supplies will be provided and you get to take home some super fresh handmade bombs for yourself. Limited spots are available, so quickly register for the 1pm class or the 3pm class with these links, and check out Zoe's Corner on Etsy while you are there.

BONUS: Bring a picture of your bathtub and Maker House will quote you for a discounted custom barn board bath caddy! Don’t know what any of that means? Don’t worry! Just bring in the photo and we’ll help you with the rest.

Finally, with a Canada Post work stoppage still possible, we are delaying our online launch to make our initial website even better. Stay tuned for exclusive password access and early-adopter deals during our beta-launch for Makerhouse.com.

Looking forward, we have some great things lined up this fall, providing you with even more great reasons to support local handmade products and makers! Stay tuned.
