Jan/February: We. Are. Staying!

February 02, 2016
02/02/2016

Ottawa, we are excited to announce that we are officially graduating from a pop-up shop to a permanent store at 987 Wellington Street West!

We could not have done it without an overwhelmingly positive response from our customers and the maker community of Ottawa, so we want to say THANK YOU to you all!

As a way to offer our gratitude, we’ll be hosting a celebration on February 19th from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and all are invited to come enjoy free local craft beer samples, Split Tree Cocktail mixes, delicious local appetizers, and live music to fill the room.

Celebrating alongside us will be our new co-tenants, the gurus of craft beer, Brew Donkey!

In a city proud to support local breweries, we could not be more stoked to have this team sharing the space with us. Please give Brew Donkey a warm welcome when you visit the store and check out their awesome local brewery tours!

For the first 3 months of 2016, we are also pumped to partner with the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS), an important non-profit fighting to protect and conserve nature.

CPAWS will be our second #CraftChange partner and will be receiving 2% of all of our sales from 2015.

We'll be promoting their #MakeItAPark campaign to designate and protect our treasured Gatineau Parkas a national park (hard to believe, but it isn't currently a national park). In March we'll host a fundraiser social in the store with CPAWS to support this critical campaign, so stay tuned for that.

Plus, we’d like to mentioned that we’ve donated 2% of all of our sales from 2015 to our first #CraftChange partner, the Ottawa Tool Library. This substantial donation will help them provide DIY programming in Ottawa and send three people to the 1st Annual International Tool Library Symposium in Baltimore this March. Way to go OTL!

Moving on to workshops. We’ll be hosting a DIY Valentine’s screen printing workshop called, “Love & Glory” on Sunday, February 7th, where you can learn the basics of screen-printing and print your own card to take home. Hosted by Sterling Prentice of Winged Beast Outfitters, whose line of T-shirts and hacked art prints has graced our local craft scene for years, this 1-hour workshop is set to be one of our best yet!

Also in the name of love, come visit Maker House Co. the day before Valentine's Day from 12 to 4 p.m. and you’ll be able to pick up a custom typewriter-inked love poem or note on birch bark for someone special. Stephanie Halin from Not Mother and Updated Furniture provides this in-store experience, and since we already carry her inspirational quotes typed on birch bark, you can pop by at anytime to get a premade note!

That’s all for now. Stay tuned for more workshops and fun times in 2016.
