March: New Workshops, New Merch!

March 02, 2016
03/02/2016

Happy March, Ottawa!

It feels great to have a permanent home, so we want to say thanks to everyone who has stopped by to say hello over the past few weeks at our shop at 987 Wellington West. It’s always nice to see familiar faces as we break in our shop, so thanks for all the support!

We’ve also got more great news for the community as well! Our neighbours, Brew Donkey, are almost all settled in and we are building an awesome craft brewery merchandise stand in store. On top of locally crafted home-wares, you will now find glassware, toques, and shirts from all your favourites local breweries, including Beyond the Pale, Dominion City, Broadhead, Broken Stick, and more. You can even take an Ottawa craft brewery tour right from the store, so pop by soon to check it out.

As for our end of the store, we've been busy making big plans for local creative workshops and events in the next year. Here's a taste of what's going on this next month at Maker House...

On Sunday, March 6th, we’re learning the basics of embroidery thanks to Fabrications, our amazing neighbours across the street! In this 2 hour workshop, participants will choose a cool fabric, learn a variety of embroidery stitches, and get more acquainted with this age-old textile art form! Cost is only $25 with all supplies included. There's limited space, so sign up via this linkfor 12:30 to 2:30pm workshop or this link 2:30 to 4:30pm.

On Friday, March 11th join the campaign launch party in-store for #MakeItARealPark by the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) Ottawa Valley Chapter, as our #CraftChange partner is working hard in asking the new Federal Government to protect Gatineau Park by recognizing it as a National Park.

Come raise awareness and funds for this issue, while having fun thanks to the craft beer being poured by Ashton Brewing Company, live jazz music being played, and awesome door prizes being given away. Plus, with 2 per cent from anything you buy at Maker House going to CPAWS through our #CraftChange initiative, you help out by just shopping in store.

Finally, if you’re local artist, you’re going to want to read this! We’re hosting our first formal art show in mid-to-late March and want you to join! Enjoy and score creative hacked art paintings, prints, and home objects, from big names like Sterling Prentice Marc Adornato, and Daniel Martelock, as well as many others. Follow @makerhouseco on Instagramor Facebook for all the upcoming details.

Plus stay tuned next month as plan to announce exciting plans for Hintonburg Happeningin May, a new workshop, and news about new makers!
